Peter Weir

Peter Weir is an Australian film director.  A pivotal figure in the Australian New Wave cinema of the 70s with films such a Picnic at Hanging Rock,  The Last Wave and Gallipoli,  he later went on to international success directing films such as Witness, Dead Poets Society, The Truman Show and Master and Commander.

He has received 6 Academy Award nominations for his work as director, writer and producer.  His is the two time winner of the BAFTA David Lean Award for Direction.
